    [melb] Center Caps and Widening.

hey, i just bought a mk4 golf and just wanted some info regarding widening and center caps.

    1. where is somewhere good that widens steelies on the south east side of melb? (i used someone in thomastown for my type3 and bug but would like to find someone a bit closer to home.)

    2. can you get center caps like these:

to fit 15inch steelies like these:

If yes, i will post up in wanted section. If no is there any other type of center cap which can be used?

Sorry i did a quick search and couldn't find the information i was looking for so sorry if this has been covered before.

    Thanks in advance
    Steve

Have you bought a Cab or a hatch?

The cabs only have 4 stud rims (at least my Mk4 Cab was).

those centres on the cab, are for a 4 stud wheel. the centre cap actually clips onto the bolts.

    Hope this help.

hey brad sorry i should have made that clear.

i bought a 1999 golf hatch, which has the standard 15inch steel rims. I was just using the cab as a reference to the center caps on its steel rims.

    sorry about the confusion.

yea I figure so mate. Mind you. with a bit of modifications (plastic welding, or just superglue really) you could make up some "mounts" to fit them...

Nice thread, I was actually thinking of doing the same thing with my steels. I've had a few leads, and Jarred seems to be on the money here - use existing covers and modify them to fit.

That's what I've gathered anyway with this example:

Although they may have been easier to get done as those are New Beetle steels which are 16". I know the current Transporters with steel wheels come with similar wheel covers to the Cabrio you posted, but they're in 16" which should match the New Beetle steels in terms of size. I was thinking of maybe finding a set of these wheel covers and then go from there.

Either way, you won't be able to find any off the shelf.

Thanks heaps for the info and i will be in contact with them soon. what roughly do they charge (pm me if you like). i am thinking about getting 9" rears made up, so when its lowered it fill's out the guards. i will have to jack it up and see how much room i have to play with then try and work out exactly what i can fit.

    thanks heaps for your help.
